Porch Light 'Unleashes' 2012-13 Season

posted 08/04/12

Porch Light Productions, now celebrating four years in Glen Rock, New Jersey, is proud to unleash it's 2012-13 season line-up, including a dynamic schedule of main stage theatrical events, children's and family shows, special events, touring productions, school drama clubs, and training programs for all ages.

The explosive Main Stage season kicks off with the 2009 Tony Award winner for Best Play, "God of Carnage" - an intense comedic drama exploring the dynamics of two couples who sit down for a chat when their children are involved in fistfight in the schoolyard. What results is a hysterically harrowing look at the crumbling of civilized behavior. Carnage erupts with finger-pointing, name-calling, stomping and carrying on. And then they break out the liquor. Performances run September 28 - October 14, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Then in October, bring the family for a ghoulishly good time as Porch Light's original Halloween musical, "Stage Fright" returns, October 26-28. Nominated in 2011 for Best Original Musical (NJACT), this comedic look at monster life will leave you howling in the aisles! The charmingly creepy story follows a group of trick or treaters who stumble upon the home of Old Lady Fargus and her gang of monsters. Can they escape in time to see another Halloween or will they too be doomed to live a life in hiding? Performed by Porch Light's Youth Performance Troupe (YPT).

The creep continues in November on the 16th and 17th with Porch Light's Academy production of the classic rock musical "Little Shop of Horrors" where, in the style of a 1950s sci-fi film, a large, greedy, carnivorous plant changes the lives of florist employees and their friends forever. Then join the theater on December 14 through 16 for a family-friendly, heart-warming holiday show also performed by Porch Light's Academy.

Porch Light brings in 2013 with the exceedingly original show "[title of show]," which is a show written by Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell about Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell writing a show. This one-act musical about its own creation and submission to the New York Musical Theatre Festival ran both on Off-Broadway and Broadway, winning multiple Obie Awards and being nominated for a Tony award in the process. Performances run January 11-20 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The fun in January continues with Porch Light's Academy Jr. production of The Little Mermaid Jr. This inspiring, enchanting musical follows the characters and storyline of Disney's classic 1989 film, including fan-favorite show tunes. Performances for The Little Mermaid Jr. run January 25-27.

Porch Light's Main Stage shows pick up once more in March with the production of "Fat Pig" by Neil LaBute. Challenging society's stereotypical ideas of beauty, this play follows main character Tom as he falls for bright, funny, plus-sized Helen. All is well until he exposes his new romance to his shallow friends, receiving less than favorable reactions. Tom is forced to come to terms with society's stereotypes, the flaws people see within themselves and others, and in turn defend the woman he loves. Performances run March 1-10 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Finishing up the month of March on the 22 through the 24 is Porch Light Academy's rendition of "Camp Rock the Musical." Based on Disney Channel's hit original movies "Camp Rock" and "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam," this musical is a story about friends and enemies alike coming together over a shared love of music. Then, in May, Academy Jr. will tell the beloved classic tale of Broadway's favorite orphan in "Annie Jr." on 17th through the 19th.

Porch Light Productions wraps up its enthralling, high-energy 2012-2013 season in June with the Main Stage performance of the hilarious "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." This Tony Award winning musical is one of overachieving outsiders at puberty's doorstep competing to win the spelling championship. The quirky and undeniably lovable cast of characters sing about their talents, home and school problems, growing up, and love as they learn life's many lessons. Performances run June 14-31 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
