With an amazing line-up of live shows, educational programs, special events, drama clubs, touring productions, and so much more, you are sure to fall in love with Porch Light's 2011/12 Season! Now entering our 3rd year in Glen Rock, NJ, we are thrilled to bring the highest quality theatrical productions and performing arts training to our community and beyond. We kick off our season with Donald Marguiles's critically acclaimed play Dinner with Friends (September 23-October 9) - a funny, yet bittersweet story about the effects one couple's looming break-up on the lives of their married friends. The first of our Main Stage productions, 'Dinner with Friends' features an exceptionally talented cast in this intimate reflection on contemporary relationships.

Our Family series takes the stage in October, with the 2011 revival of our original Halloween musical, 'Stage Fright', performed by members of our Youth Performance Troupe. This ghoulish, high-energy musical filled with monsters and mayhem is the perfect Halloween treat for the whole family! Come dressed to impress on Saturday afternoon for our special costume contest and get your photo taken with your favorite monster!

November is all about the kids as our Academy students present the classic Broadway musical, 'Bye, Bye Birdie,' the Elvis-inspired story of a rock and roll superstar known as Conrad Birdie who is about to be drafted into the army, but not before one last publicity stunt that will have fans going wild.

Porch Light celebrates the holidays in style this December with a new twist on the classic holiday story, 'A Christmas Carol.' Members of our Youth Performance Troupe share the stage with adult actors from our community in this special family series event.

This January, Porch Light rings in the new year with the beloved classic, 'Beauty and the Beast', performed by our Academy Junior students (grades 1 through 5). Join Belle, Beast, Gaston, Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumiere and the rest of your favorite characters in this timeless story that teaches us all that beauty truly lies within.

Love lingers in the air this February when we bring you our second Main Stage production, the warm, light-hearted comedy 'The Goodbye Girl.' This Valentine's special engagement tells the story of an unlikely romance between a bitter, single mother and the opinionated actor that shows up on her doorstep with the a lease to sublet her apartment. Combining the unique wit of Neil Simon, a score by Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line) and lyrics by David Zippel (City of Angels), this contemporary classic will bring out the romantic in you!

The magic continues in March with the literary classic, 'The Wind in the Willows,' performed by our Academy students. This poetic, deeply intelligent story tells of the friendship of the good-hearted Water Rat, the shy and curious Mole, and the sensible Badger. Featuring a hilariously funny script with lyrics to match, the production includes a magical and eclectic score that runs the gamut from haunting English ballads and rippling reggae to tongue-in-cheek punk and lilting Latin congas.

Porch Light's original Playwrights Festival returns this April, showcasing one-act plays from emerging talents. Past participants have have gone on to present their plays in New York City and beyond, including our Mary Lynn Dobson, who's 2011 production of 'Skin Deep', a hilarious and scathing look at the world of child beauty pageants, went on to win the Samuel French Off-Off-Broadway New Play Festival.

Audiences will be up on their feet by the end of April as we present our final Main Stage production, 'The Wedding Singer' - a rockin', 80's musical about a NJ wedding singer who is left at the altar at his own wedding. Devastated, he sets out to destroy others' happiness - until he meets Julia, a lovable waitress who wins his affection. The only problem is she is about to marry a Wall Street shark and unless he can pull off the performance of a decade, she'll be gone forever.

Fly about the clouds in May 2012, as Porch Light Academy Junior students return to the stage for their Spring musical, 'Aladdin Junior.' The fantastical tale of mayhem and magic carpet rides will send your spirits soaring.

Our season comes to a close in June 2012 with our Youth Performance Troupe production of '13 The Musical,' Jason Robert Brown's grown-up story about growing up. This high-energy rock musical reminds us that cool is where you find it and sometimes where you least expect it.

Our first-rate productions can only be matched by our extensive educational programs, including classes, workshops and private instructions in acting, vocal performance, instrumental performance, audition techniques, comedy and improvisation, dance performance, musical theatre, adult and teen fitness and much more. We look forward to sharing our love of the performing arts with audiences, students and the many friends and volunteers that have supported our mission of 'leaving the light on' for artists of all ages.
